Footballer Robert Lewandowski, famed for his scoring ability, has a new mission now and it's not on the pitch, but on the silver screen. In a special trailer dedicated to the latest Mission: Impossible film, the Polish football hero teases a possible new career--that of a secret agent.
The 36-year-old Barcelona forward with close to 700 goals in his glittering career features in a clip alongside clips of Tom Cruise’s famous on-screen character Ethan Hunt. In a cool, deadpan voice, Lewandowski connects elite football to high-stakes espionage — and, in the process, hints that the expertise he has developed over the years could be put to use in a world-saving endeavor.
Blending Sports and Cinema
Talking in English in the one-minute video shared on social media, Lewandowski looked back on his dedication to excellence from an early age. “My whole thing with this thing was missions was always to be the best, to strive for changing the game,” he says. He stresses the importance of teamwork, and says: “The chemistry, the connection, the bond: all working together for the same purpose.
“That’s when you turn into a legend.” That’s what it requires to do the impossible.”
His words are accompanied by a series of montage clips combining his dedication on the football field with fast-paced action scenes from Mission: Impossible.
From Scoring Goals to the Screen and Beyond
What Lewandowski has done there already flies in the face of football logic. He is Poland's top goal scorer of all-time and has been a successful player at top clubs such as Lech Poznań, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and his current team, FC Barcelona. Among his long list of trophies are multiple domestic league titles and European honors.
With the latest Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning serving as the last installment in the long-lived film franchise, this gig is a fun one to make some sense of that. If Tom Cruise is preparing for one last go-around as Ethan Hunt, fans might be asking — is Lewandowski ready to fill the role in a new testimonial adventure?
For now it’s just a promo, but the concept of the Polish striker exchanging his football boots for a pair of spy boots has certainly got fans salivating.
