The Doll, by Bolesław Prus, a 19th-century literary masterpiece, is finally being made into a new film in Poland. Presented by Giant Films, the film is creating a lot of buzz especially as it has been revealed that veteran actor Marek Kondrat is returning to film-making. Kondrat, 74, is to play Ignacy Rzecki, one of the book's main characters, his first film role in nearly 20 years.
Marcin Dorociński will star as the protagonist, Stanisław Wokulski. The casting alone has brought early joy to Polish audiences, both actors being well-known with strong emotional links to the tale.
Production to Commence in 2025, Première in 2026
Kondrat revealed what drew him to the project in a statement released through the production team. "The Doll is my favorite novel," he offers instead. I never had the opportunity to meet its characters before – but my father did, in Wojciech Has's interpretation. Now the destiny has thrown me chance, and I will use it. Rzecki is a man of two worlds — past and present — and I understand that. It was the moment that the world was paying the closest attention, and that's what makes the story so relevant to today."
Maciej Kawalski, famous for Dangerous Gentlemen, is directing the film which is set to start filming in July 2025. The film's work behind the camera will come from Piotr Sobociński Jr., known for Corpus Christi and The Wedding. The premiere of the movie is planned for 2026.
A Milestone for Polish Cinema
Day of the Wacko (2002) and Nothing Funny (1995) star Marek Kondrat is regarded as one of the most respected actors in Poland. His come back was one of the most eagerly awaited in Polish cinematographic history. So, with the level of talent already involved, and the cultural weight of The Doll in its corner, this new version of it is promising to be something of a cinematic event.

On May 20, 2024, a bold fashion statement by Sarah Jessica Parker went viral. While shooting the third season of And Just Like That… in New York, Parker was seen in costume as Carrie Bradshaw in a giant floppy gingham brown and white bonnet. The oversized hat was adorned with two pendant straps — and racked up instant reactions across social media. An initial series of photos Parker shared prompted a range of playful comparisons to everything from pillowcases and diaper bags to Strawberry Shortcake dolls and nursery rhyme characters. The dramatic piece was accompanied by a striped 1973 Ossie Clark dress and Dr. Scholl’s shoes, resulting in an outfit many deemed loud and crazy.
