Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak Dies Aged 69

Poland's military community is mourning the death of General Waldemar Skrzypczak, former commander of the Polish Land Forces, who passed away at the age of 69. The sad news was confirmed on Monday by Polish defense minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The defense minister expressed his sorrow, calling the general's death a major loss for his loved ones and the military family. He remembered General Skrzypczak for his professionalism, deep patriotism, and lifelong service to the nation.

He also thanked the general for training thousands of soldiers, leading them both at home and during international missions, and sharing his knowledge with younger generations until his final days.

A Lifetime of Military Service and Leadership
General Waldemar Skrzypczak was born on January 19, 1956, in Szczecin, a city in northwestern Poland. He studied at the Military Academy of Armored Forces in Poznań and later at the Academy of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces in Warsaw.

Throughout his career, he became one of the most respected leaders in Poland's armed forces, especially known for his expertise in armored warfare. He also served as an advisor to the defense ministry, where he promoted the modernization of the Polish military.

In 2005, General Skrzypczak commanded the Multinational Division Center-South in Iraq during the fourth rotation of the Polish Military Contingent. He worked to reduce rebel attacks during this time. In 2006, he took charge of the Polish Land Forces and played a key role in increasing Polish troop numbers in Afghanistan.

Remembering a Highly Decorated Commander
General Skrzypczak's distinguished service earned him many awards. Among his honors were the Knight's Cross and Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Gold Cross of Merit from Poland, as well as international recognition.

He was named an Officer of the Legion of Merit in the United States and a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit in Portugal.

General Skrzypczak leaves behind a legacy of military excellence, leadership, and dedication to Poland's defense forces.
