Eighty-Five Finalists Named for Chopin Piano Competition 2025

The final stage of Poland's most famous cultural event – the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition – will feature 85 pianists from 20 countries.

China, Japan and Poland Top List of Finalists
Among the finalists there are 29 pianists from China to 13 each from Japan; and 13 representing Poland. These musicians will compete in the final round scheduled for this October in Warsaw.


From a Record Pool, the Selections Are Made
The competition's starting field was more than 640 candidates. From these, 66 were selected to participate in the ‘first stage’ of the main event and 19 more were added as pianists that won prestigious piano contests. In the first (preliminary) round, which took place between the end of April and the beginning of May, 162 pianists from 28 countries played in audition for the jury, which selected the 85 Finalists.


Public audition and final performance
“The competition will consist of a televised audition before a live audience in three stages, with a grand final,” the Chopin Institute said in a statement. -10 competitors will make it through to the last round where they will battle it out for the ultimate reward and the gold medal.


Laureates Set Off on Global Tour
In addition to the top prize, five pianists will be recognized as laureates and will be invited to perform at some of the top venues in Europe, Asia and the United States on a post-competition tour.

There were thousands following the preliminary round, and the final phase is expected to attract millions of viewers, said Poland’s Culture Minister Hanna Wróblewska. She noted the event’s significance for the cultural face of Poland and the patronage of the next generation of music talents.


A Prestigious Tradition
The Chopin Competition — named after the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin — was first held in 1927, and is now in its 19th edition. It is held every five years and remains an important springboard for emerging international careers in the classical music world.
