Ewa Pajor came painfully close to the biggest prize in football. The Poland forward finished second in the 2026 women's Ballon d'Or, with Spain's Alexia Putellas taking the trophy at Monday's ceremony in London. For Pajor, 29, it was still a night to be proud of.

A Season to Remember at Barcelona
Few players have matched what Pajor did in the 2025-26 campaign. She scored 34 goals in 46 appearances for Barcelona, and the Catalan side collected four major trophies along the way. The biggest of them was the Women's Champions League, where Pajor ended as the top scorer with 11 goals. She saved her best for the final in Oslo, netting twice as Barcelona beat Lyon 4-0.
Putellas Wins Again, Kane Takes the Men's Prize
Putellas, who used to play alongside Pajor at Barcelona, picked up the award for a third time. Pajor's runner-up finish adds to a growing list of personal highlights. At last year's ceremony, she won the Gerd Müller Trophy, and in 2025 she captained Poland to their first appearance at the Women's European Championship.
The men's award went to Harry Kane, who beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to the top spot. He became the first Englishman to win it since Michael Owen did so in 2001.
