Georgian National Arrested Over Murder of Anti-Putin Russian Artist

A shocking political killing in eastern Poland has led to the arrest of a suspect carrying a Georgian passport. Polish authorities detained the man in connection with the murder of a Russian satirist widely known for his sharp criticism of the Kremlin. The case has sent ripples through European diplomatic circles, with Poland's top leadership describing it as a potential act of state-sponsored terrorism.

The Killing and the Suspect
The victim, known publicly as Semyon Skrepetsky and identified by his real name, Robert Kuzovkov, was shot multiple times in the head and chest on Monday morning. He was walking his dog near his home in Biała Podlaska, a city in eastern Poland close to the Belarusian border, when a gunman approached and opened fire in broad daylight. Witnesses at the scene described the attack as deliberate and calculated. Kuzovkov had built a significant following for his political caricatures mocking Russian President Vladimir Putin, making him a recognizable voice among anti-Kremlin artists living abroad.

Polish police and officers from the Internal Security Agency, known as ABW, moved swiftly. By Thursday, they had detained a man suspected of involvement in the killing. Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the arrest via social media, stating that the suspect was found carrying a Georgian passport and that authorities were actively working to determine who had ordered the hit.

Political Fallout and Investigation
Tusk had already raised the alarm a day earlier, saying the murder carried every sign of a politically motivated assassination. His words grew stronger on Thursday as investigators dug deeper. If the killing turns out to have been ordered from Moscow, he warned, it would represent a serious incident with major international consequences. "This is state terrorism," he said plainly. Security services are now focused on tracing the chain of command behind the attack, with the central question being who commissioned the killing and from where.
