New Backpacks Help Bypass Ryanair’s Strict Baggage Rules

Retailers have quickly pivoted to Ryanair’s tougher baggage policy by introducing new backpack and suitcase designs that fit within the strict size limits of the airline while holding more than you’d think. These innovative luggage selections are rising in popularity and flying out of stores fast.

Ryanair Starts Cracking Down On Hand Luggage Rules
Hand luggage limit: This is how Ryanair will enforce new strict rules Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary recently announced that the airline would further crack down on hand luggage supplies. Passengers can currently bring one piece of hand luggage with them, which can measure a maximum of 40x25x20cm and may weigh up to 10kg, free of charge.

Travelers in the past were able to get on with bags slightly over the limit with little repercussion. But in recent weeks, Ryanair has sealed the loophole and is now hitting anyone taking an oversize bag on board with a charge of up to PLN 300.

Creative Ways to Travel (and Pack) Like a Pro
In return, retailers have rolled out travel products that they claim will enable passengers to play it rule-fast. A number of stores now offer vacuum backpacks, which shrink down when the air is sucked out, so that it’s easier to fit them within size restrictions. States are struggling to keep these products in stock.

Another also solved the problem and was to be found in stores such as Primark - suitcases with detachable wheels. Many travelers battle wheels that render their bags too big for size testers, even taking them off at the airport to conform to regulations.

Complaints Mount Over Sizing Sorters and Penalties
The Competition and Consumer Protection Office (UOKiK) has been flooded by the complaints of the passengers. Some say the baggage size sorters have been recalibrated to be smaller, resulting in everything from being confused to being suddenly assessed charges.

One of them is Martyna, a passenger traveling with Ryanair from Katowice to Bergamo. She had paid for priority boarding and the privilege of taking two bags - only to be fined PLN 288 when her case was half a centimetre over the limit.
