A Standout Campaign for Pajor
The shortlist, revealed on Tuesday, marks Pajor's second straight year in contention. She finished eighth in the voting last time around, but this season gave her an even stronger case. As captain of Poland's women's national team, the 29-year-old was central to Barcelona's success, which included lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Her numbers back up the hype. Across club and country, Pajor found the net 34 times in 46 matches while also chipping in eight assists. In the Champions League alone, she topped the scoring charts with 11 goals, cementing her status as one of the tournament's standout performers. It's worth noting she already picked up the Gerd Müller Trophy last year for finishing as the season's top scorer, so this nomination continues a run of strong recognition for her.

Tough Competition, and a New Winner Guaranteed
Pajor won't have it easy, though. The list includes some serious talent, among them Barcelona teammates Claudia Pina and Caroline Graham Hansen, two-time Ballon d'Or champion Alexia Putellas, and Manchester City's Khadija Shaw. Interestingly, Aitana Bonmatí, who has claimed the award for three consecutive years, didn't make the cut this time after a season disrupted by injury. That means, for the first time in a while, women's football is guaranteed a fresh face taking home the trophy.

No Spot for Lewandowski on the Men's Side
Things didn't go as smoothly for Poland's men's captain, Robert Lewandowski, who failed to secure a place on the 30-man shortlist. The striker recently left Barcelona after four productive years there, moving to MLS side Chicago Fire this past August.

The men's list instead features eight-time winner Lionel Messi, often called one of the sport's all-time greats, along with reigning champion Ousmane Dembélé, Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, and rising star Lamine Yamal.

As always, the Ballon d'Or winners will be chosen by a panel of journalists from around the world, who weigh individual performances, overall impact on matches, team success, and displays of sportsmanship. Fans won't have to wait too long to find out who takes home the honors, with the ceremony set for October 26 in London.
