According to the Sumy regional military administration, drone strikes targeted the town of Putyvl, located just inside Ukraine's border, injuring 11 people and damaging civilian structures.
Further southeast, the city of Sumy also came under attack. Mayor Artem Kobzar reported that a guided bomb strike injured three people and caused damage to a multi-storey apartment building, breaking windows and balconies.
Sumy Region Sees Rising Hostilities
The Sumy region has been a key point in the ongoing conflict. Almost a year ago, Ukrainian troops launched a significant cross-border incursion into Russia's Kursk region from Sumy.
Russian officials claim those Ukrainian forces have since been removed, and President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to create a buffer zone in the area.
Attacks on the Sumy region have been increasing, with previous strikes causing heavy casualties.
A missile strike on the city of Sumy in April resulted in the deaths of 35 people. Monday's strikes add to the growing violence affecting civilians in this border zone.
