Tax Audits Begin After Online Sales Data Shared

The taxman in Poland has commenced audits at people who sold items, rented out apartments, or provided services, over the Internet, between 2023 and 2024. The checks are being conducted using data from platforms including Vinted and Booking. com under new disclosure rules. Some taxpayers are in the process of being notified by official letter that checks continue.

Up to 300,000 Taxpayers May Be Affected
In early 2025, data from online platforms was made available to tax authorities under the DAC7 directive. This information included people and businesses who made certain thresholds of online transactions — be they sales, rental and service offers. The authorities believe approximately 300,000 individuals and corporations could come into this classification.

That information is now being used by customs and tax authorities to check if these duties were being paid as they should. For those who understated their income or neglected to pay taxes, audit notices for the 2023-2024 campaign are coming out.

What Taxpayers Should Expect
According to tax adviser Krzysztof Burzyński, the persons to whom the letters were sent are under investigation in terms of the Personal Income Tax Act. “The tax office is calling people they already know didn’t fulfil their obligations,” he said. Such letters could cover both tax audits and customs-fiscal checks.

That anyone receiving such a letter review its tax returns for 2023 and 2024 and get ready for potential consequences. It’s crucial to know the legal responsibilities and make appropriate moves based on the audit process.
