Water Supply Disrupted
A man identified in Poland only as Ihor H., by privacy regulations, is detained covertly with a sack over his head, suspected of involvement in damaging a deep water well that supplies Sopot - a popular Baltic seaside resort every year with at least 40,000 cubic litres of clean drinking water. The prosecutors say he pulled a valve from the well, which resulted in a reduction of pressure within the water distribution system serving part of this southwestern Idaho city. He faces a potential eight years in prison if convicted.

They also believe that a week earlier, the same man tried to break into another water system but saw someone passing by and ran away. The suspect engaged the man (who was walking his dog) in Russian — or something close to it — and appeared to be taking apart a guardrail or fence.

Motives and extra acts of vandalism
Apart from the water supply sabotage, Ihor H. confessed to having destroyed electrical boxes on a nearby allotment garden site. But his motives have left detectives scratching their heads. In statements, he said his behaviour was born of an attempt to fix a cultural problem — namely, that people are too glued to their screens and ignore one another or those less fortunate.

In light of the bizarre reasoning, officials have now arranged for an evaluation on August 12th to look into Ihor H.'s mental state and whether or not there are deeper problems underlying such thought processes.
