Weekend of Miracles Supports Polish Families

Last weekend, Christmas donations were delivered to nearly 20,000 families and individuals living in poverty in Poland through an annual charity initiative designed to alleviate poverty and promote social inclusion. During the weekend, thousands received practical assistance and renewed hope through the Weekend of Miracles event.

"Weekend of Miracles" Across Poland

The Nobel Gift project, which is organized by the Wiosna Association, completed its main delivery on Friday morning. Volunteer drivers set out from 607 warehouses throughout the country to bring specially prepared gifts to the most vulnerable families. The program emphasizes giving aid that is "focused" on what the recipient needs and "intelligent," as opposed to providing a one-time gift.

Special assistance was directed toward elderly and isolated individuals, large families, individuals injured in an accident, sick individuals, and individuals living with a disability. Gifts are collected throughout the entire year, and the Wiosna Association actually consults with recipients about what type of assistance will most effectively improve their situation.

Changing Lives Through Tailored Support

Joanna Sadzik, the president of the Wiosna Association, stated that the primary goal of the initiative is to effect real, lasting change. An example of how the program is helping people is the case of Mr. Adam, who received fuel; Ms. Anna, who was allowed to attend vocational courses to obtain a higher-paying job; and Kacper, who, after previously sleeping on the floor with his brother on a foam mattress, is now finally able to sleep in a bed with bedding of his own.

This year, 19,995 families in need received gifts, an increase of 2,935 families as compared to last year.

25 Years of Impact Nationwide

In recognition of the 25-year history of the initiative, several landmarks across Poland were lit up during the weekend, including Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science, the Tauron Arena in Krakow, the Szczecin Philharmonic, Katowice City Hall and Manufaktura in Lodz, representing the nationwide support for the work of the Wiosna Association.
