The agreement was announced after a joint appearance in the garden of Starmer’s residence in Downing Street, where both the UK and Ukrainian leaders also saw Ukrainian soldiers who are currently being trained in Britain.
Starmer described the agreement as a “massive step forward” in the UK’s support for Ukraine. “I’m very, very proud this afternoon that we’re announcing a deal to industrial military co-produce for Ukraine and the UK for the first time as far as we see it,” he said.
No specifics of the deal were revealed but both leaders stressed its necessity to bolster their nations’ defense.
Zelenskyy Grateful to UK for Resource Support
Zelenskyy thanked Britain for supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russia. He added that the new deal would not only boost Ukraine’s military capacities but would contribute to strengthen the defense industries of both countries.
Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy met with King Charles at Windsor Castle, where they shook hands in a gesture of British support. The Ukrainian president also met the speakers of the British parliament’s two houses while on his trip.
The deal shows that work is continuing to deepen UK-Ukraine cooperation at a crucial juncture in the war against Russia.
