Lewandowski Outshines Messi as Chicago Draws Miami

Two former Barcelona icons finally met on an MLS pitch on Wednesday, and it was Robert Lewandowski who walked away with the headlines. The Polish striker found the net against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami as Chicago Fire fought their way to a 1-1 draw. More than 60,000 fans packed the stands to witness the encounter, with both stars playing every minute of the contest.

A Warm Greeting Before the Battle Began
Lewandowski's move to Chicago Fire only happened in July, once his contract with Barcelona ran out, while Messi has already been a fixture in MLS since 2023. Despite being rivals on the field that night, the two shared a friendly handshake in the tunnel before the match kicked off, a small reminder of their shared history at Barcelona.

Once the game began, though, all pleasantries were set aside. Chicago wasted no time asserting themselves, breaking the deadlock just 10 minutes into the match. Lewandowski struck from eight meters out to notch his sixth goal of the season, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

Casemiro Levels It, Tempers Flare Late On
Miami didn't take long to respond. In the 48th minute, Brazilian midfielder Carlos Casemiro rose to head home a corner delivered by Messi himself, pulling his side level and settling the contest into a tense back-and-forth.

Things got heated as the match wore on. A scuffle broke out between Lewandowski and an Inter Miami player, which saw the Polish forward shoved to the ground. Words were exchanged in the aftermath too, with Rodrigo De Paul, Messi's Argentine teammate known for his fiery on-field antics, reportedly taunting Lewandowski by pointing to his own World Cup and two Copa América triumphs.

In the end, the match finished level at 1-1, marking Chicago Fire's fourth straight draw. The result leaves Fire sitting fourth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, while Inter Miami hold second place with a game still in hand.
