Medieval Treasure Found in Forest Near Kalisz

Two pots full of medieval treasure have been found during an "archaeological sensation" in a forest near the central Polish town of Kalisz. The discoveries were made just days apart, by members of the Denar Association, who were looking for a German V-2 rocket when they found suggestive hints of secret wartime operations.

But rather than war artefacts, the team found a ceramic pot buried just 30 centimetres below the surface. The pot remained entirely undamaged and included 631 objects: coins, some ornaments, and silver bars.

From the time of Mieszko II Lambert: In the Treasures
'We know that they are very old, but we are yet to date them precisely, ' said PrzemysÅ‚aw Kurowiak, president of the Denar Association. Expos have included coins from the reign of Poland's Mieszko II Lambert, as well as rare coins from other European countries — including Czechia, Germany, England, and Hungary.

By the time this cache was abandoned, people no longer used these kinds of pot, and because no coins from a later date were discovered, they suspect it was likely buried in rapid haste — perhaps during a raid or fire — and just as quickly forgotten. "We are speechless," the group wrote on Facebook about the honour.

Second Find Generates Even More Excitement
And incredibly, days after the initial discovery, the team also found a second pot in the same forest! No details have been released, as the pot is in a fragile state and has to be treated with extreme caution. It's interesting that the ceramic material of the second pot is not known in Poland, Germany or the Czech Republic, which means that there might be an even more amazing find there.

"The second function of the pot is still a mystery, but one thing is clear already: this is an archaeological sensation," Kurowiak said. "This does not happen!" So, while people "look for years and never find" anything, we still found the mother lode twice in three days! It's like hitting the lottery twice."

Archaeologists and historians are now preparing for another round of investigation, hoping that these finds will provide new knowledge about Poland's medieval heritage.

Ukraine Drone Blitz Leaves Russian-Held Crimea Without Fuel

Petrol stations across Russian-occupied Crimea went dry on Thursday, a visible sign of how effectively Ukraine has been squeezing the peninsula's supply lines from the air. In Sevastopol, the largest city on the peninsula, most filling stations had nothing to offer. Even the rationing system put in place in recent weeks was struggling to function. In the resort town of Yevpatoriya, drivers lined up outside the only station still operating, hoping for whatever little was left.

A new consortium called Team Gen 6 has been formed with one clear goal: keeping Europe at the cutting edge of sixth-generation air combat technology, even as the political partnership that once drove the effort crumbles.
