Poland’s Second Astronaut Set for June 10 Space Launch

Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is the man getting ready to become Poland’s second astronaut in space. His next mission will take him aboard the Falcon 9 rocket on June 10, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Looking ahead to takeoff, Uznański-Wiśniewski described what he is most looking forward to is the final countdown and to hearing the “3, 2, 1…” himself before takeoff.


A Milestone for Poland
This is a big accomplishment for Poland’s space industry. On the two-week flight in the orbit, Uznański-Wiśniewski is to perform 13 experiments. These experiments had been devised by Polish researchers in cooperation with the European Space Agency, a sign of increasingly good involvement of Poland in international space research.


Part of the Ax-4 Project
The mission is a venture in the Ax-4 program, which is being run by the private American company Axiom Space. Uznański-Wiśniewski will be accompanied by three other foreign crew members. They will spend two weeks orbiting and participating in a variety of scientific and technological investigations.
