Pet owners in the Polish southern city of Tarnów can now enjoy free sterilisation and microchipping for their cats and dogs, thanks to a program sponsored by the municipality. The effort is to encourage responsible pet ownership and the curbing of stray dogs.

Helping Pets and Owners Alike
Supported by the civic budget of the city of Tarnów, this is free of charge and spares the owners the costs, which otherwise are quite considerable — sterilising their animals or even having electronic identification collars installed. It is created to help pet owners, but also to promote the well-being and security of animals throughout our city.
Residents can apply for services by going to City Hall's website and visiting the veterinary clinics indicated on the website. Applications are currently open.
Positive Community Response
In general, as we can read from the beginning of this report, several hundred people have used the possibility to rent an e-car in Tarnów since its launch on October 1. In addition to sterilisation and castration, surgical microchipping is also carried out, thus increasing the chances of finding lost pets.
City officials say the program is part of an ongoing commitment to animal welfare in the community, which will also help save families from added veterinary costs.
