Poland to Face Germany in EuroVolley Quarterfinals

Poland have booked their spot in the EuroVolley quarterfinals, setting up a showdown with Germany after the two sides took very different paths to get there. While the defending champions breezed past Latvia, Germany had to fight tooth and nail to eliminate co-host Bulgaria from the tournament.

There was never much doubt about how Saturday's match would go. Poland made quick work of Latvia in the round of 16, wrapping things up in straight sets with scores of 25–17, 25–16, and 25–16. It marked the fifth time in this tournament that Poland has won a match 3–0, a clear sign of just how dominant they've been. The only blemish on their record so far came during the group stage, when they dropped a tough five-set battle against Bulgaria. Still, that loss didn't stop them from finishing at the top of their group heading into the knockouts.

Germany Grind Past Bulgaria in Five Sets
Germany's road to the quarterfinals looked nothing like Poland's. Facing co-host Bulgaria in the round of 16, the match stretched all the way to a decisive fifth set before Germany finally came out on top, winning 3–2. The victory ended Bulgaria's tournament run on home soil and secured Germany a date with the defending champions.

That meeting is now set for Tuesday, when Poland and Germany will square off at Arena 8888 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

For Poland, this tournament represents a chance to hold onto the title they won back in 2023, when they beat co-host Italy 3–0 in the final held in Rome. That victory marked Poland's second European Championship title overall. Germany, meanwhile, are still searching for their first-ever European crown. Their closest brush with glory came in 2017, when they fell just short in a five-set final loss to Russia.
