Polish Police Stop 73-Year-Old Woman Driving Drunk

The police in the town of Gubin, near Poland's border with Germany, pulled over a 73-year-old woman on Sunday after she was seen driving on the wrong side of the road. She created a hazard of having other cars drive straight into her.

Alcohol level nearly fatal
When officers subjected her to a breath test, they discovered she had 5.9 parts per thousand of alcohol in her blood. Levels of about 4–5 can be fatal already, often resulting in respiratory or heart failure, according to experts. Somehow, the woman managed not to crash her car before she was intercepted, despite being in such an impossibly drunken state.

Legal consequences
The woman was brought to jail, sobered up and now faces a charge of driving under the influence. Offenders in Poland can be punished with up to three years in prison, hefty fines and a potential driving ban for years.
