Polish Tourist Killed in Mauritius Seaplane Crash Near Reef

A 25-year-old Polish tourist has lost their life following a seaplane crash off the coast of Mauritius on Tuesday afternoon. The aircraft came down onto La Prairie Reef off the island's southwest coast under circumstances that remain under investigation. The tourist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the pilot, an Indian national residing in Mauritius, survived but sustained serious injuries and was transported to a private clinic where they are currently receiving treatment. An autopsy conducted following the incident determined that the Polish tourist died from asphyxiation caused by drowning, providing clarity on the immediate cause of death while the broader circumstances of the crash itself remain unknown. The reason the aircraft went down has not yet been established, and no information about what took place in the moments before the crash has been made publicly available.

An Investigation Now Underway
Mauritian authorities have launched an investigation into what caused the seaplane to crash. The incident took place in the afternoon in an area off the southwest coast of the island and officials are working to determine what happened through the ongoing investigation and the search for wreckage debris.
