Polish Woman Killed in Berlin Pride Car Attack

The single person killed when a vehicle plowed into crowds near Berlin's Pride celebrations this past weekend has been identified as a Polish national, according to a statement released by Poland's Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The Attack and Its Victims
The tragedy unfolded late Saturday evening in Tiergarten park, situated close to where the Pride parade was taking place at the time. A man behind the wheel of a van drove straight into the crowd, killing the woman and leaving 29 other people injured in the chaos that followed. Her identity has not been made public.

Poland's Foreign Ministry described itself as shocked and deeply saddened upon learning of her death. Officials also confirmed that the Polish consul stationed in Berlin has been in touch with German authorities and will be offering consular support to the victim's grieving family in the days ahead.

City Officials React
Berlin's mayor, Kai Wegner, revealed that the woman had been visiting the German capital along with her daughter at the time of the attack. According to separate reporting, the daughter was also injured during the incident.

Wegner spoke about how deeply the tragedy had affected him, saying his thoughts remained with the victim's daughter and the rest of her family following the attack. He shared these condolences directly with Jan Tombiński, Poland's charge d'affaires in Germany.

As for the man responsible, German authorities have named him as 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, describing him as someone believed to be sympathetic to the Islamic State. He was shot and killed by police shortly after the attack took place.
