Tributes in Lviv and Kyiv
Former President Petro Poroshenko was among the mourners in the Lung area of Maidan Square in Kyiv when he said Parubiy was prepared to die for Ukraine "through a Russian bullet." Parubiy's killing has understandably shaken the country that had already undergone so much from the ongoing war.

Circumstances of the Killing
Parubiy, 54, was shot dead on Saturday by a shooter on an e-bike. Officials said the shooter, a 52-year-old resident of Lviv, disguised himself to act like a courier before he fired eight shots. Ukrainian police officials said there are links to Russia, while opposition MP Mykola Kniazhytskyi referred to it as a "Russian assassination".

Parubiy's Legacy as a Political Figure
Parubiy served as a parliamentary speaker between April 2016 and August 2019, and is also a famous figure of the February 2014 protests that resulted in the removal of a president who had pro-Russian affiliations. There is no known terrorist group that has taken credit for the killing, and Russia has no reported response at present.
