Zelenskyy Slams Russia for Attacks on Energy Sites

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has blasted Russia for carrying out an "unprecedented massive" drone attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, describing it as a "direct insult" to international efforts to establish peace. In an overnight strike from Sunday to Monday, Russian forces deployed 138 Shahed drones, as well as decoy drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

The attack was reported to have damaged the Kremenchuk oil refinery, which provides fuel to Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region. The refinery was the target of the attack, Russia's Defense Ministry said. Zelenskyy also noted that the strike occurred just after a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump. In addition to the Middle East, the conversation also addressed briefly the Ukraine conflict.

Zelenskyy Calls for Russian Oil Sanctions
Zelenskyy wrote in a social-media post: "It happened immediately after Putin's talk with Trump. When the Americans requested that we refrain from hitting Russian energy sites." "This is a slap in the face of everything that the international community is trying to do to stop this war," he said.

Zelenskyy also thanked foreign leaders who back stiffer penalties on Russia's oil exports and said they need a stronger price cap that would discourage Russia and seriously reduce war funding. Without stronger economic steps, Russia will not act against peace initiatives, he warned.

Civilian Structures Targeted
The Ukrainian president also underscored that Russia intends to launch further attacks on energy installations. In a nightly address to the nation on Sunday, he also cautioned that there were continuing threats to the country's power grid. Reports citing footage from pro-Russian Telegram sources displayed drone attacks on turbines at the Ochakiv wind farm, an important renewable energy facility that has no military purpose, and which have prompted concerns about violations of international humanitarian law.
