Iga Świątek is showing no signs of slowing down. The Polish star fought her way back from a set down to beat Greece's Maria Sakkari 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at the Cincinnati Open on Monday, stretching her current winning run to eight matches in a row.

A Slow Start Turns Into a Statement Win
Sakkari came out strong and claimed the first set, putting Świątek in an early hole. But rather than let the match slip away, the world No. 5 flipped the script almost immediately, taking control of the next two sets with authority. Over the course of the match, Świątek broke her opponent's serve five times and managed to save seven of the eight break points Sakkari created. That kind of resilience under pressure carried her through to a fourth-round finish, keeping alive her defense of the Cincinnati title she won a year ago.

Riding Momentum Into the US Open
This win didn't come out of nowhere. Świątek walked into Cincinnati on the back of a title run in Toronto, where she beat Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in Friday's Canadian Open final to pick up her first trophy of the 2026 season. With the tournament in Ohio serving as one of the last real tests before the year's final Grand Slam, players are using these matches to sharpen their form ahead of the US Open, which kicks off on August 30.

Świątek wasn't the only Polish player on court Monday. Maja Chwalińska took on Russia's Diana Shnaider, while Magdalena Fręch squared off against Elena Rybakina in other matches from the day.
