Grabara Joins Juventus After Wolfsburg Relegation

The agreement between the two clubs isn't just a simple loan. Buried in the deal is a clause allowing Juventus to make the transfer permanent for a fee in the region of €12 million once the season wraps up.

Grabara built his reputation as a dependable number one during his two years in Germany, a spell that came after he had already impressed while playing in Denmark for FC Copenhagen. Born in Ruda Śląska, a town in Poland's Silesian region, he began his football journey with hometown club Ruch Chorzów before earning a move to Liverpool as a young talent. He now has six senior caps for the Polish national team.

Another Pole Follows a Familiar Path
Grabara isn't breaking new ground by joining the Turin outfit. He becomes the latest in a small line of Polish goalkeepers to wear the black and white jersey, following Wojciech Szczęsny, who spent seven years at the club between 2017 and 2024 and picked up three league titles along the way.

Yet when it comes to Polish legends at Juventus, one name stands above the rest: Zbigniew Boniek. Known affectionately as "Zibi," the attacking winger was instrumental in Juventus winning the European Cup back in 1985, the tournament that would later evolve into the Champions League. Across his time at the club, Boniek found the net 31 times in 133 outings across all competitions.

Not every Polish player has enjoyed such fortune in Turin, though. Arkadiusz Milik, who joined in 2022, has struggled with fitness problems throughout his stay, managing just 77 appearances in four years despite winning the Coppa Italia with the club. His future in Turin now looks uncertain, with a departure this transfer window seeming increasingly likely.

A Backup Role, For Now
At Juventus, Grabara steps in as cover for Guglielmo Vicario, another fresh arrival at the club, rather than taking over as the automatic starter. He effectively fills the gap left by Michele di Gregorio, who was Juventus's first-choice goalkeeper last term and is now heading to English club Bournemouth.

Both new goalkeepers arrive with a shared mission: helping turn around a club that has slipped from its usual heights in recent seasons. Juventus finished a disappointing sixth in Serie A last season, a result that cost them a place in next season's Champions League.

The club has been busy in the transfer market, spending close to €160 million so far this window, yet the gap to reigning champions Inter Milan remains significant. Realistically, Juventus will instead be fighting for a top-four finish, competing against the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Roma, Atalanta and Como for a return to Europe's premier competition.
