Klose Applies for Poland Football Head Coach Job

Former Poland striker, the record scorer in World Cup history, Miroslav Klose, has allegedly submitted his candidacy for the head coach of the Polish national football team. Germany's second-highest goalscorer of all time, with 16 goals over four World Cups, the 46-year-old former attacking midfielder manages German second-division outfit 1. FC Nürnberg. Klose was born in Opole, in southern Poland, and has plenty of playing experience but limited coaching experience.

Rheindorf Altach, Austrian team After a brief spell as head coach in season 2022–2023, Klose joined Nuremberg, where he managed a middle table place last season. As the Polish Football Association (PZPN) casts its net far and wide, Klose's interest in the job has given an international dimension to what had initially been an all-Polish shortlist.

Urban Popular, But Viewed as "Too Soft"
Candidate for the first set of the original list were Jan Urban, Jacek Magiera, Adam Nawałka and Jerzy Brzęczek. Urban, 63, had appeared to be the fans´ choice but is likely to be snubbed by PZPN President Cezary Kulesza after being deemed "too soft" for the job.

A search for a new coach got underway after Michał Probierz resigned last week complaining of a row with Robert Lewandowski and a 1-2 loss to Finland.

Skorża In It Too, Although Uncertain Hope, as we know, is a terrible thing, but you'd have to be pretty optimistic to think that one season would be enough to make Fabio Skorża a candidate to continue beyond this summer.

One other potential candidate is Maciej Skorża, the manager who won the 2022 AFC Champions League with Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan. Skorża, who has won four Polish league titles, is in the U.S. with Lech for the FIFA Club World Cup. Hopefully Kulezsa can persuade him to return, there have been whisperings that Kwiatkowski is not willing to work under the present PZPN management.

Domestic names, in addition to other foreign names such as Nenad Bjelica, Carlos Queiroz, and Winfried Schäfer, also mentioned.
