Krzysztof Piątek Joins Al-Duhail in €10M Transfer

Krzysztof Piątek has made a €10 million move from Hertha Berlin to Al-Duhail Sport Club in Qatar, as the Polish striker leaves European football for the first time. The 29-year-old signed a three-year contract on Monday after a successful stretch with İstanbul Başakşehir in Turkey.

A Career of Big Transfers
The transfer to Al-Duhail is Piątek's fifth heavy fee transfer, taking his total career transfer expenditure to around €76.5 million — more than any other Polish player in history. He had a good two-year stretch in Turkey, scoring 38 goals and ending as the Süper Lig's second-highest goalscorer this season.

He previously hit the headlines during a breakthrough spell at Genoa, found the net 13 times in half a season and earning a €35 million switch to AC Milan. Struggling with form and fitness in Italy, Hertha Berlin paid €27 million for him, a series of loan moves followed before his renaissance in Turkey.

Rising to the top of the Transfer Charts of Poland
Piątek now has a higher combined transfer value than other Polish national players. Next is the Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik on more than €58m, with Robert Lewandowski on just under €54m – kept down by his headline free transfer to Bayern Munich in 2014.

With 12 goals in 35 games for Poland, Piątek's shift to Qatar could be a new beginning and also a lucrative final act for an up-and-down career in Europe.
