Contentious Comments Result in Expulsion and Probe
The charges are in connection with comments he made in the Latvian parliament, or Saeima, on June 5. Speaking in Russian, in violation of parliamentary rules, he was effectively ejected from the chamber. When told of a proposed bill that would require Russian speakers to sit for a Latvian language exam, he shouted, "There are more of us, our language is Russian!" other than to make a rude gesture. His dismissal followed those actions that caused him to be disbarred for what was defined as unprofessional acts.

Resignation and Response to Allegations
After the incident, Rosļikovs had been elected to the Riga city council on June 7 and resigned from the Saeima. Upon his release, he proclaimed his innocence and branded the charges as political persecution. The VDD emphasized that Rosļikovs had several times been warned about the possibility that his actions may have legal consequences.
