Ukraine Expects Continued Polish Support Under Nawrocki

Karol Nawrocki was elected as President of Poland on 1 June, which led to speculations about a potential shift in the country's overall foreign policy. Unlike outgoing President Andrzej Duda who was a fervent supporter of Ukraine's fast-track entry to the European Union, Nawrocki has said he doesn't support Ukraine's accession to the EU right now.

He also spoke up for the solving of historical disputes, including a history of WW2 events where Ukrainian nationalists cooperated with Nazi invaders, so that bilateral relations were strong.

Kyiv Alarmed But Keen to Work Together
Ukraine feels, Heorhiy Tykhyi, spokesman for Ukraine's foreign ministry, has a strong and secure Ukraine link to Poland, Ukraine's told the reporters. The two nations' security are intertwined, he said, and thanked Poland for backing Ukraine's bid to integrate with the EU as part of its EU presidency.

According to Tykhyi, Kyiv also expects a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Nawrocki in order to discuss as much as possible about cooperation and mutual interests.

Nawrocki Preaches Respect and Balance
Amazon Nawrocki outlined his position towards Ukraine in a recent interview, explaining that while Poland should continue to support Ukraine militarily and politically, such support must not to the detriment of the Polish economy or Polish farmers. He emphasised that mutual respect and compromise are necessary, adding that Poland and Hungary have their own historical issues that need to be dealt with.

It also needs to pay its dues and respect Poland's lead on helping Ukraine in the past, which was based on generosity of President Duda and the Polish people, Ukraine is now to follow.
