Ancient Bronze Bracelet Found in Poland

Polish treasure hunters have uncovered a 2,800-year-old bronze bracelet in the Kociewski region. Where is it? Of northern Poland. The discovery was made when a metal detector used by one of the group members gave off a strong signal, leading to a light dig. And I thought the big heavy one was a bronze bracelet that surprised our group in the hole.

The bracelet weighs 267 grams, reports the Kociewie Treasure Hunters association. At the same location, they also found two ancient brooches and a bit of another piece of jewellery the next day.

The expedition leader, Cezary Modrzejewski, told local media the bracelet was only a little squashed and survived pretty well despite being buried just 20 centimetres underground. He guessed that the object goes back to perhaps the 8th or 9th century, and related it to a time in the Bronze Age.

Not Resold, Rather a Conservation Artefact
There have been some attempts at treasure hunting, but as per standard protocol, the artefact uncovered will not see any monetary payment go to its finders. A spokesperson for the regional conservation office will then sign off on transferring the bracelet and some other pieces to the nearby Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk.

The find, he said, was the property of the State Treasury by law. Those who found it can get a certificate of recognition, but there is no cash prize for the time being. The currency would not be cashed in before 2027, and only after then will the new monument protection act come into force, compensating in cases like this one.

The group said that while they had not found treasure or other valuable items, they were sure to have stumbled upon something solid in the country's history with this Bronze Age find.

Trucks and diggers star as Romeo and Juliet in a giant play by an Estonian theatre group. Blocking the world of teen romance out of his mind, Jaakko Meitus points to a four-metre-tall concrete head that will go on the stage in a Shakespearean production like no other. The production Romula ja Julia is a variant of the classic tragedy, in which actors have been replaced by machinery. It was filmed outdoors, at an old abandoned limestone quarry amid verdant fields and meadows.
