Russia Loses 950 Soldiers in 24 Hours, Ukraine Says

Ukraine's military is reporting that Russian forces lost about 950 soldiers in 24 hours, which would bring Moscow's total personnel losses, since the February 2022 invasion, to more than 1.09 million soldiers. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reports Russian losses to include: 11,169 tanks, 23,261 armoured vehicles, and 32,577 artillery systems, since the beginning of the conflict.

The update was released just after Ukraine conducted an overnight drone strike on Russian territory.

Drone Strikes in Both Countries
Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed that defence systems intercepted a total of 31 drones, two of which were over the Krasnodar region, and 15 over the Black Sea. In Sochi, officials reported a man was killed when debris from a downed drone hit his car.

In Ukraine, regional authorities reported Russian drones targeted Zaporizhzhia. A private home caught fire, and a 66-year-old woman was injured. Emergency services were able to control the fire.

Escalation After Major Attacks
The latest strikes followed what Ukrainian officials said was the largest air attack conducted since the commencement of the conflict. The attack on Kyiv over the weekend resulted in dozens of deaths and damaged key infrastructure.

Russia and Ukraine continue to deny intent to target civilians in the conflict, though neither is visiting sites marked as civilian targets, as conditions worsen and each side continues to suffer losses.

In a show of resilience that few cities at war could pull off, around 5,000 people took to the streets of Kyiv on Sunday for the city's annual Pride March — the largest LGBTQ+ gathering in the Ukrainian capital since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022. The march brought together a remarkably broad crowd: LGBTQ+ individuals, active-duty soldiers, veterans, human rights defenders, diplomats, and supporters from across the country. It ran for roughly two hours before wrapping up, coinciding with a Russian drone strike on the capital as it drew to a close.

Ukraine Strikes Moscow Refinery Again in Major Drone Attack

The skies over Moscow turned smoky and chaotic on Thursday as a large wave of Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian capital, hitting its main oil refinery for the second time in a single week. Kyiv framed the assault as proof of its expanding long-range capabilities and as a clear signal to Moscow that continuing the war comes at a real cost at home. Russia, meanwhile, answered with its own missiles aimed at Kyiv, keeping the cycle of strikes firmly alive on both sides.

When Ukraine's president extends an olive branch to Vladimir Putin, it's tempting to read it as desperation. But analysts watching the war closely say the opposite is true. Kyiv's renewed push for direct talks isn't a sign that Ukraine is struggling — it's a calculated move from a country that believes the momentum is shifting in its favor.

Some nights at a World Cup feel different from the moment the first whistle blows. Tuesday night in Kansas City was one of those nights. Troops from Lithuania, Poland, and France have kicked off joint military exercises near one of Europe's most strategically watched stretches of land. The drills, officially named Gallant Boar 2026, began on Tuesday and are scheduled to run through June 26.
