Zelenskyy offers Poland drone defence support

Following 19 Russian-made drones thrusting Poland's airspace into uncertainty, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is said to have provided Poland with options of assistance, training, and expertise to take down the Russians and - the 'Shaheds' - the type of drone that the Russians use. In a post on X, Zelenskyy said he had contact with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss the overnight incursions and future potential military level cooperation.

"I offered Poland our assistance, our training, and our expertise in shooting down Russian drones, especially 'Shahids,' and we agreed to future cooperation," Zelenskyy posted, adding that they both acknowledged the drone incursions as "a totally different level of escalation from Russia," and that an appropriate response was needed.

The Ukrainian President called on European countries to jointly develop an air defence system, and that Ukraine has actionable ideas on how they could do that successfully.

Poland's Diplomatic Efforts
Tusk commented that he has talked about the incidents with important leaders in Europe, asking for support in strengthening Poland's air defence. In his post on X, Tusk said he held talks with Emmanuel Macron, French President, Keir Starmer, UK Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister, Friedrich Merz, German opposition leader, Dick Schoof, Dutch Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, and Zelenskyy.

Tusk reported that he received more than merely expressions of solidarity in respect to his requests for safeguarding Polish air defence and concrete proposals regarding support for strengthening Poland's air defence systems.
