Fury Faces Polish Giant Before Joshua Fight

Tyson Fury has lined up an unexpected tune-up fight against Polish veteran Mariusz Wach, setting the stage for what's expected to be a massive showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year.

A Late Twist in the Opponent Search
The bout is set for July 24 at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand. Wach wasn't even part of the earlier conversation when names were being floated for a low-key warm-up fight ahead of the Joshua clash, but he's now stepped in as the surprise pick.

Fury, clearly with his eyes on the bigger picture, made it clear this year carries extra weight for him. "This is a landmark year for me in boxing," he said. "I'm fully focused on preparing for a tough opponent and making sure I'm the best version of Tyson Fury going into fight night."

Wach Brings Experience, Not Just a Record
On paper, the 46-year-old Wach's 39-13 record might not turn heads, but his résumé tells a different story. Known as "The Polish Giant," the Krakow-born fighter once went toe-to-toe with Ukrainian legend Wladimir Klitschko in a 2012 bid for the unified heavyweight world title. Over the years, he's also stepped into the ring with serious names in the division, including Alexander Povetkin, Dillian Whyte, Martin Bakole, Jarrell Miller, and Frazer Clarke.

Fury's manager, Spencer Brown, didn't downplay how much this fight matters in the bigger scheme of things. "This fight is serious preparation for his fight with Anthony Joshua, and we cannot afford any slip-ups at this stage," he said.

Fury's Road Back to the Top
Fury, who holds a 35-2-1 record with 24 knockouts, made his comeback in April after stepping away from the sport, beating Arslanbek Makhmudov by unanimous decision. That win followed back-to-back losses to Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, a fighter many consider among the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet today.
