Massive Drone Attack Hits Moscow, Wildberries Warehouse

Fire Extinguished, Injuries Reported
According to regional governor Andrei Vorobyov, a drone struck the Wildberries warehouse near Moscow, sparking a fire that has since been put out. He added that the strikes weren't limited to the warehouse alone, with drones also damaging private homes, apartment buildings, shops, and even a power station in the surrounding area. At least three people were hurt in the attacks, Vorobyov said.

For its part, Wildberries, which has found itself targeted repeatedly since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, downplayed the damage. The company said in a statement that debris from the drone strike hit one of the warehouse walls, causing only minor damage.

Hundreds of Drones Target the Capital Region
The scale of the overnight assault was staggering. Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said Russian forces shot down 180 drones over the Moscow region alone, making it one of the biggest aerial attacks Ukraine has launched against the Russian capital so far.

That number was just part of a much bigger picture, though. Sobyanin said a total of 620 drones were flying toward the greater Moscow area between Monday evening and 5 a.m. (0200 GMT), a barrage large enough that the city had to temporarily halt flights at its airports.

Moscow wasn't the only region affected either. Several other areas under Russian control, including the annexed Crimean peninsula, also reported facing heavy drone attacks overnight. Krymenergo, the main power supplier for Crimea, said the peninsula's southern districts were hit by Ukrainian drones during the night. As a result, power was cut off in a number of settlements, and the company noted that electricity supply issues remain difficult across the region's north-western, eastern, and southern areas.
